The Choking Grip

When flowing lines are locked inside your head
And even love cannot provide the key
Perhaps the voice inside your mind is dead
Your inner eye has lost the power to see

With doorless walls erected round your heart
The rhythm you rely on can’t be heard
A silent dread is pulling you apart
An unseen fog obscuring every word

But in your dreams, you know your soul still flies
Its flightless wings still carry you away
Awake you’ve lost the freedom of the skies
A skulking beast with nothing left to say

A strangled hope replaces every breath
The choking grip of slow poetic death
