The Best of Days

It should have been a Saturday today
I don’t know why that’s just the way it feels
Though Wednesday and its friends are in the way
Tomorrow being Sunday still appeals

It won’t be so, tomorrow has arrived
But poets have a licence to suppose
A weekday’s not the same but I survived
And day by day is how a lifetime goes

But Saturdays and Sundays are the best
No urgent calls, no threatening alarm,
No work to do gives weekends added zest
The pressure valve that saves the world from harm

So lets pretend it’s Sunday every day
And watch the cares of living slide away …
