In the pond

Beneath the waters of the pond
There lies a place of which I’m fond
Where little elfin people live
And weave the magic that they give

They cause the flowers to bloom in spring
They give each bird each lovely wing
The leaves they paste on every tree
And every night they talk to me

Inside my head these elfin folk
Like to dance and sing and joke
And what I notice all the time
Is everything’s in perfect rhyme!

The doctor says they are not real
These elfin folk I see and feel
But he has never been beyond
The mirrored surface of my pond
