We met in a poem

I wrapped myself inside a word
And sent it pigeon post
I flew beneath that racing bird
To find your distant coast

You spread some seeds upon the sill
My pigeon came to eat
You took the output of my quill
And laid it on the seat

I closed my eyes, the word unwrapped
And I was there with you
Within your spell I sit entrapped
But I know what to do

I brought you scones and jam and tea
And now we sit and dream
With chocolate cake and hot brandy
And strawberries and cream

At last the meal is tucked away
It’s now your turn to write
I’m back inside the words we say
You wrote me home, goodnight
