Trapped inside

The words I write can touch you, I cannot
I never knew I’d envy what I write
The power that the written word has got
Replacing all that’s dark with something light
Each letter that I place upon the page
Can cross the world and nestle in your heart
Each phrase is like an actor on the stage
And every one must play its proper part
Yet in these words you’ll find the poet wrapped
They do not travel on their own to you
Within the lines you know that I am trapped
And when you read the words I hear them too
We are not far apart in poetry
For when you read these words you’re holding me
