I’m on my knees and wait with baited breath
In all my life I never felt this way
I wonder if this feels a lot like death
For just one word I hope that she will say

He never looked at me like this before
His eyes are wide and deeper than ravines
I know exactly what he’s hoping for
I wonder if I grasp just what he means

She hesitates I know that I have lost
I asked too much so now I know I’ll lose
I should have stopped to think about the cost
A stupid fool to try to make her choose

I cannot make him wait, I think he’d die
The silly fool should know what I will say
The answer must be written in my eye
He has to know I’ll answer him this way

There isn’t any doubt I better go

His eyes have glazed I wonder what his guess

I know that she is certain to say no

Yes

Author notes

Prompt and title are the magic eight ball answer “yes” There are, if you haven’t worked it out, two voices with 20 lines between them.
