Borrowings

You touched my heart in tender ways then slowly drifted by
But you will be with me for evermore
I knew I would surrender days to listen to you sigh
Without your love I wonder what I’m for

The beauty that you showed to me and then you took away
Has changed my life in ways you’ll never know
There’s nothing that you owe to me I feel you every day
One thought of you and all the world will glow

The merest glimpse that rode the breeze has left a lasting scent
You were not born for any man to own
You made me think of cherry trees and all that love has meant
I’m happy that I once had you on loan

Author notes

Quote – ‘The blossom may drift away upon the softest breeze, but the scent remains forever’.
