Winter nights

When winter sun has kissed the day goodbye
And reds and golds of sunset passed away
The beauty of the night salutes the eye

The robin frets without the chance to fly
And put his battle colours on display
When winter sun has kissed the day goodbye

The glory of the moon can make you cry
As she meanders down the milky way
The beauty of the night salutes the eye

The stars at last can prove they are not shy
And act their parts in nature’s cabaret
When winter sun has kissed the day goodbye

A ghostly owl deciding who will die
Magnificent to us who’re not his prey
The beauty of the night salutes the eye

Though warmth and comfort are in short supply
And Jack Frost’s icy friends are out to play
The beauty of the night salutes the eye
When winter sun has kissed the day goodbye
