Day 2 of the test

Antigua calls to me across the sea
Where England’s finest fight to clear their shame
A clash of nations witnessed on TV
Some fool is sure to say it’s just a game

The scoring mounts and with each run a smile
That “fifty-one” is fading ball by ball
Since Collingwood is hanging round a while
The total that we reach will not be small

A declaration at a decent score
Before we get a gift from Captain Gayle
A ball he ought to smash for six or four
Should I feel bad to see a batsman fail?

I’ll sleep a little better after that
A flannelled fool who’s ruled by ball and bat
