I want to write the poetry that makes the nations think
Encapsulates the best of man in vivid violet ink
I want to tell the world the truth so all mankind will know
And nobody will be in doubt about the way to go

I want to set the record straight, expose the dreadful crimes
There’s genocide, destruction and the use of slanted rhymes
I want to be the herald who reports when things are new
But more than that I want to be the man who writes for you

I want to etch a sonnet deep into a mountainside
That can’t be washed away by rain and easily denied
I want to give us all some hope in words that ring with fire
And set our children up in life with passion and desire

I want to learn to write the words that everyone can read
And use my gift to do away with pestilence and need
I want to write a simple verse to wrap your heart in lace
I want to fall asleep each night while gazing at your face.
