Sod the lot of them!

Some people think that life is misery
And try to make all other’s lives the same.
I can’t subscribe to their philosophy,
To me it seems that there’s a better game.

Some other folk put piety on top
And live to sing the praises of a god.
They dream that death’s a start and not a stop,
To me it seems their outlook’s rather odd.

So give me wine and women and a song,
Then give me beef and Yorkshire pud to eat.
I cannot see that I can go far wrong
If I attempt to make life rather sweet.

I’m going to try to have a bloody blast,
Until the day the final die is cast.

Author notes

Shakespearean sonnet using the line “Until the day the final die is cast.” in the closing couplet.
