Final words

Where are words long after midnight when your mind has gone to sleep
In this jumble of confusion are there thoughts you ought to keep
Where are thoughts when all is silent soon the world will wake as new
But I’ll still be here and dreaming that I went to sleep with you

Where are dreams just when I need them where’s the place inside my head
Where we meet and change the future on an island in my bed
As I slip down in my pillow and I hear my breathing slow
Are you sailing here to join me where the balmy breezes blow

We can ride your boat at anchor until morning brings the light
With these final words of nonsense I must bid my love goodnight
