Isolated memories

In a time I half remember
I was only four or five
Now I know it was September
When my brother came alive
With an sense of some foreboding
Hanging heavy in the air
Shoulders hunched beneath the loading
I sat on the bottom stair
I don’t know much more about it
That is all my memory
And I have no cause to doubt it
When my brother came to be

Author notes

Memories from when you are that age seem to be in very short bursts. I remember all sorts of odd moments that I cannot tie to a date or place, but I know this one was 23rd September 1962, when my middle brother was born
