Suspended animation

She was sunlight on the darkest winter day
She was happiness when all he saw were tears
How could he live when she was washed away
By tides that turned tomorrow into years

There was work to keep his mind from turning black
There were hobbies when his other work was done
Every night he found his mind kept turning back
To those times when every day was filled with fun

And then when his life had slowly passed him by
Heard an unexpected caller at his door
In a moment he remembered how to fly
In a kiss he knew what he was waiting for

She had worried that she’d left it far too late
For perfection he was quite prepared to wait
