Too Damned Early!

It’s the very early morning and the World’s been touched by frost
And I wish my “on-call” number had been thrown away or lost
Though the robin still keep singing it’s a very lonely sight
When you’re woken by a phone call and you mind screams “it’s still night”

It’s the very early morning and the World is still asleep
Though the dark is disappearing while the tree’s long shadows creep
If the New Year starts this early is there any honest hope
That it’s gonna be a good ‘un, or I’m even going to cope

It’s the very early morning and I’m heading back to bed
I’ve identified the problem and I wish one colleague dead
I’ve a cup of tea to soothe me and I’ve almost closed my eyes
Pretty soon I will be dreaming and I KNOW you’ll sympathise …
