Out of Season

The clear blue sky has turned to cold and grey
And balmy breeze becomes a chilling wind
The world has let the summer slip away
A measure it’s unwilling to rescind

The swallows mass to feed before they leave
And verdant trees will soon start turning brown
This time of year is made for man to grieve
For every smile to fade into a frown

And yet my heart is filled with golden light
That bathes a meadow filled with summer flowers
I can’t conceive of any winter night
Your laughing voice outstrips all nature’s powers

The seasons seem a private state of mind
When Cupid has your senses realigned
