When writing in meter gets boring
And even my muses start snoring
I try to stop racking
The brains that need sacking
And tackle the jobs I’m ignoring

The house needs some painting and mending
The state of the windows needs tending
My rooms full of clutter
There’s leaks in the gutter
The stairs start to creak when ascending

I rushed to my tools to get started
(well really I slouched heavy-hearted)
But as I got going
Sweet words started flowing
And thoughts of hard work soon departed

My home may soon crumble to pieces
My trousers don’t boast the best creases
My chair needs repairing
The carpets are wearing
But weekly my verse pile increases!
