The Under 19 International

I settled down to watch a bit of cricket
But all I saw was misery and rain
No crimson missiles closing on the wicket
No bludgeoning to cause the bowlers pain

The younger generation should be playing
I love to watch new genius emerge
But in the dressing room is where they’re staying
Out on the pitch the fielders may submerge

Up in the box pundits pontificating
While groundsmen scowl and look towards the sky
Small danger of the heavens desiccating
The straggled crowd hunch up and wonder why

I’ll always love this English summer game
So when I’m cross the weather is to blame
