A Bard

A little bit of laughter filled with tears
A way to lift emotion from the page
Your poetry will last a thousand years
You’ve found a way to counteract the fears
That all of us must face upon this stage
A little bit of laughter filled with tears
We ought to shout when such a gift appears
With words to show our happiness and rage
Your poetry will last a thousand years
With teeth that add the bite to other’s jeers
And beauty that is certain to assuage
A little bit of laughter filled with tears
You’ve given something new to all your peers
A golden key to freedom from the cage
Your poetry will last a thousand years
When in your heart that special thought appears
A few short lines that mark the modern age
A little bit of laughter filled with tears
Your poetry will last a thousand years
