A Good Idea

I think perhaps I ought to learn to read
Though writing can be quite a lot of fun
Some other poetry may be the seed
For golden yarns that I have never spun
When I can read I think that walking’s next
So I’m not stuck forever in this place
Unchanging scenery has got me vexed
I’d rather lose the screen and see your face
In school it never seemed I’d need to learn
Why read when you can play the giddy fool
And thinking’s never been the way to earn
That “ignorance does best”‘s a golden rule
Ah, what the heck! Tomorrow’s soon enough
I’m off to do some less important stuff!
