The cold grey light of winter in my mind
The clouds that fill the sky are here inside
The source of all the tears the others cried
How can you leave the memories behind?
A history can leave the reader blind
To truths too stark for anyone to tell
You have to find the hidden side as well
How can you leave the memories behind?
The future though is what we have to find
It’s here for us and should be clear to see
If only we knew how we could break free
How can you leave the memories behind?
The cold grey light of winter in my mind
How can you leave the memories behind?

Author notes
An “Echo Sonnet” like the kyrielle sonnet this form repeats the final line of
the first stanza as the final line of each, that is the 4th, 8th, 12th and 14th
lines are the same, although you are allowed to develop the line is you wish,
it must finish on the same rhyming word. Again like the kyrielle sonnet the
first line is repeated as the 13th line, the first line of the closing couplet.
Unlike the kyrielle sonnet the lines are ten syllables, ideally in iambic
pentameter and the closing couplet rhymes by adopting an A,b,b,A A,c,c,A
A,d,d,A A,A rhyme scheme, the capital letters being the repeated lines.
