A lonely life

She sits and stares but sees an endless space
Where once she saw the man who won her heart
Remembering the way they ran their race
She wonders why her world was torn apart
The flames were fanned between them long ago
When he was young and she was younger still
The loss of love that took so long to grow
Has washed away the withies of her will
Inside her mind she sees him straight and tall
He holds her hand and tells her he will stay
The rest of us will not see him at all
We only see her sadness slip away
She never had the chance to be a wife
So long ago a war destroyed her life
