A love sonnet

Some say that love is transitory at best,
That you can never give your heart away
But I am quite prepared to take the test.
I gave my heart but are you here to stay?

Throughout the years since poets learned to write
They sung the praise of love that’s built to last.
The truths that Shakespeare wrote are still in sight,
I know the age of lovers is not past.

You take my hand and gaze into my mind
And whisper secret words with just your eyes.
In such a gaze there’s only love to find,
I can’t believe such looks are built on lies.

When love is true and practised every day
I know that love can never fade away.
