A quiet hero dies

He landed on the beach in Normandy
As D-Day dawned to set the whole world free
And give a better life to you and me
And now his life will end without a song
He marched and fought his way to cross the Rhine
His friends were killed beside him in the line
But never in his life he gave a sign
How hard it was to stand up tall and strong
He was not born to bear the dreadful strife
In forty six begun his proper life
To raise his children with his brand new wife
And fight a different way to get along
His sons and family round him in a throng
A peaceful death for him cannot be wrong
