A sad story

A sad story

He looked down his nose and he said we were wrong
Disgrace to our parents he said
His language was forceful his morals were strong
His great indignation was fed
Young people today are not what they were
When someone like him’s kissing someone like her

I grinned at my girl and she grinned back at me
The grins followed kisses for sure
The cause of his outrage was easy to see
Much harder to give him the cure
The passion we showed in a clinch at his gate
A clear sign of love that is better than hate

He’d lived on his own for a great many years
And envy had torn him apart
The great green-eyed monster had played on his fears
And eaten the core of his heart
When he was a youngster he fell for a girl
When she turned him down his life fell in a whirl

And now he hates kissing and cuddling at night
And we were the target of ire
We wondered how we could ignite his delight
And set the old codger on fire
A widow who’s lusty and ready for love
May happen along and give Crusty a shove

But we won’t be standing and waiting to pounce
If they are canoodling outdoors
We know that t’was jealousy caused him to flounce
He’ll lose it if ever he scores
The moral high ground is a poor place to be
When really your wanting a good life like me!

Author notes
“Moral indignation is jealousy with a halo.”
– H. G. Wells (1866-1946)
