A Supporting Brief From The Wisest Of Birds

It seems to me that poetry
May be the biggest hoot;
Once love of words amongst us birds
Has taken solid root.

A wordless song is surely wrong –
As thrush and robin boast.
A parrot or a blue macaw
Will always take my toast.

I’ll look askance or barely glance,
At free verse without flow;
And as for prose, as some propose,
My answer must be NO!

Each well bred owl will screech and howl
For meter every time
I hope this judge will never budge
From standing up to crime!

A Limerick by clever dick
Will often raise a smile
But amphibrachs are oft the tracks
Though sometimes they beguile.

As owls we must project our lust
And put this thought in play
Iambic’s are S00-PEER-REE-ARE
We’re with you all the way!
