A widowers lament

I’ve lost you slowly line by line, how cruel the ways of time.
Each day the detail slowly fades away.
When you first left me I retained a memory sublime
But even that refuses now to stay.
I saw your face on every wall, your smile was in the sky
But daily there was less for me to see.
Where once I saw your tears in rain I’m now alone to cry
This cannot be the way it’s meant to be.
A love should last for ever an old master on the wall
Not trickle down the gutter to the drain.
I thought we’d built the pyramids not temples bound to fall
You’ve gone like watercolours in the rain.
