A Winter Night

In silent contemplation of the night
I stand alone and wonder at the stars
What mysteries are there beyond our sight
While we are locked beneath these unseen bars
How many eyes are looking back at me
From far beyond the little that we know
Are others setting down in poetry
A distant and exotic stellar show
And you my love whose stars are just like mine
Are you outside to serenade the sky
Have you the words to paint a grand design
A song that holds the whole of you and I
While here at night I search to find a way
To let you hear the words I cannot say
