Absent Friends

Absent Friends

Dalaney taught me poetry was not required to rhyme
And metaphor can be the poets friend
Amera greased my meter till my verse was not a crime
She showed me forms that I could learn to bend
And Mairi Bheag encouraged me to see “not being bad”
Meant somebody may want to see what talent I still had.

When Passions Promise turned the heat beyond what man can stand
She opened eyes their owners thought were blind
Sue Cardwell always had the time to lend a friend a hand
And found the flaws that I could never find
So many other friends were here but now what life remains?
Allpoetry was once a fort against the real worlds strains

I still see other people here who’ve changed my points of view
I still find real poetry to read
But I can’t find the sparks I need to write too much that’s new
The fields of golden words on which to feed
To all of you I’ve known and loved please know I love you still
And if you write some brand new works I’ll read them with a will
