Amera\’s Years

Amera’s (Y)ears

An half-grown elf still wet behind the ears,
Who loves to rhyme and play with ancient words
And thinks poetic norms are for the birds
Has finally achieved her elder years

She used to be a baby wrapped in tears
A coddled youth who bruised too easily
But now she takes her critics breezily
She’s finally achieved her elder years

But she’s still fond of downing wines and beers
Of dressing up and then of dressing down
She loves to see a disapproving frown
From someone who’s achieved their elder years

An half-grown elf still wet behind the ears,
May sometime soon achieve her elder years

This ageing child is not as she appears
Not getting wise, not losing foolish whims
Coquettishly she winks at passing hims
I think she’s still stuck in her teenage years

Like other elves she hides her pointed ears
Pretends that she’s a normal sort of girl
And not a strange and other-wordly pearl
A princess still stuck in her teenage years

But now a chance of maturation nears
Will she decide it’s now the time to change
No chance of that Amera’s far too strange!
A cheeky imp enjoying all her years

This ageing child is not as she appears
She knows that age is just a count of years

Author notes
Happy Birthday to one of AP’s very finest!
