Her lips were made of laughter and her smile of summer sun
I’d swear she taught the nightingale to sing
In love forever after with a waterfall of fun
She always made the best of everything
She walked on windswept beaches so the waves could kiss her hair
And anywhere she’s walking I’ll be there

We lay on grassy pillows with our fingers intertwined
Made birds and fish from clouds that floated by
Played hide and seek in willows where the silent lake was lined
And dreamed that we could swim across the sky
She walked through woodland pathways so the leaves could brush her hair
And anywhere she’s walking I’ll be there

On Autumn expeditions to a land of golden leaves
We’d dance through drifts that crunched beneath our feet
The tender intermissions that my memory perceives
Make days of foolish loneliness complete
She walked in winter moonlight so the beams could gild her hair
And anywhere she’s walking I’ll be there

Before I’d ever met her I was lost and I was found
And afterwards I knew where I must be
Now I cannot forget her or the visions or the sound
That made the days she gave me poetry
She walks along my daydreams so that I can touch her hair
And anywhere she’s walking I’ll be there

Author notes
It’s a long time since a poem woke me up and demanded to be written down …
