She was waiting on the doorstep as he stepped out of the car
He was with her with a smile to steal her kiss
Overwhelmed with dreams of passion and a whiff of Zanzibar
They were heading for a night of gentle bliss
On the radio the record was “A Whiter Shade of Pale”
And the strains of Procul Harem surely cannot ever fail

He was ready in the morning, brought her tea and toast in bed
After passion had descended into dreams
By his side she felt the pleasure of the vision in her head
As her fantasies flowed fast like mountain streams
And Norwegian Wood was playing as he played with all her charms
So The Beatles singing love songs saw her melt into his arms

She was dressed up like a princess at the opera next night
And he laughed at all the jealous looks he won
All the singing was perfection and the costumes apposite
To the tale of ancient lovers that was spun
When they listened to Tchaikovsky over one last friendly drink
She reflected without music they may still be on the brink …
