Autumn Gold

I found the girl I long to hold
In dreams I dreamt so long ago
When she was draped in Autumn gold
And all of life was there to know

I wish that I had been more bold
But never knew that things would change
When she was draped in Autumn gold
My life began to rearrange

Too soon the future had been sold
And we had drifted far apart
When she was draped in Autumn gold
She broke this timid lover’s heart

The World continued uncontrolled
In time I met another girl
When she was draped in Autumn gold
She sent my life into a whirl

We built a life but let it fold
She drifted to another’s arms
When she was draped in Autumn gold
I failed to see her girlish charms

But now as though it was foretold
I’ve seen my childhood love again
When she was draped in Autumn gold
She took away the years of pain

Although she didn’t fit the mould
That she had cast so long ago
When she was draped in Autumn gold
I didn’t see her crown of snow

We’re happy now our dice have rolled
Two winners in the game of life
When she was draped in Autumn gold
My old sweetheart became my wife
