Beauty in the eye

As thick black clouds roll in from every side
And dark brown spots appear on hardened ground.
The sparrows fuss, then find a place to hide
When all the sky erupts in light and sound.

Now nature stops, awaiting each surprise.
It seems the gods are readying for play,
It could be night, are clocks all telling lies?
But light’ning flashes bright as any day

Warm drops explode on overheated skin,
A white tee shirt turns dark and lets me see
The welcome shapes where love songs can begin
And thunderclaps set all emotions free.

The world is fresh and clean, the raindrops warm;
There’s beauty in a summer thunder storm.
