Beneath the Moon

I fell in love beneath a moonlit sky
And stayed in love in sunshine and in rain
A single kiss had taught me how to fly
A single word now filled my heart with pain

Her eyes were filled with images of stars
That guided me to ports I did not know
We danced to tunes on heaven’s own guitars
Before the storms of life began to blow

I knew despair beneath dark thunderclouds
And mighty seas made progress hard to make
She ran away to lose herself in crowds
A soft “goodbye” had caused my heart to break

But then beneath another summer moon
I learned to love another dancer’s tune
