Roll Over Beethoven he made something new
By mixing sweet swing with the best of the blue
A foot tapping beat tied to words all could sing
Chuck Berry was Rock and Roll’s king
The music of Memphis in old Tennessee
Was quickly subverted by something more free
The Beatles, The Stones, Buddy Holly and more
Chuck Berry had opened the door
When Reelin’ and Rockin’ with your Maybellene
He gave you the moves that would make her your queen
The duck-walk and riffs that took over your heart
Check Berry tore music apart
His Ding-a-Ling’s chimed and his fame’s Almost Grown
He’s parted the stage but we’re not on our own
There’s still enough fun to fill everyone’s soul
