Consequences

A moment’s inattention and you see the aftermath
I’ve softly wrinkled fingertips and toes
I closed my eyes and found that I was sleeping in the bath
That’s not at all unusual I suppose

I lay down with some problems that my mind was sorting through
And rubbed the shampoo suds into my hair
In half another moment I would know just what to do
      But suddenly I found I wasn’t there

You whispered love into my ear and waltzed into my heart
I held you in my arms and kissed your lips
The World stood still and waited while we flirted with the art
Of drawing sweet conclusions through the drips

Then I awoke to no-one but my softly wrinkled skin
And deep inside the feeling life’s a game I cannot win
Author notes
I fell asleep in the bath!
