I’d like to use my name without a change
But Jeff Green’s may be commoner than muck,
I needed something just a little strange
That didn’t say at once “This guy’s a schmuck!”
Before I learned to walk, or even crawl,
I’d found the sport that suits me to a T.
The satisfying thunk of bat on ball,
Means more than almost anything to me.
So cricketjeff will find me everywhere,
AllPoetry, the Beeb, and goodness knows.
A monicker I never have to share,
Well no-one else would want it I suppose.
I don’t know what it means to have a name
That’s less than half a person, more a game.
