Dandelion

There is a plant beloved of guinea pigs,
That brightens any unkempt garden space,
With roots beyond where any mortal digs –
The dandelion is rarely out of place.

The brightest yellow you will ever see –
With leaves that look like angry lion’s teeth..
A restaurant for any passing bee,
The sea of gold you’ll find on Hampstead Heath.

A groundsman’s curse, it’s not a weedy weed,
No velvet lawn can welcome the intrusion
A toddler’s clock to spread the flying seed,
A golden flower, a food – there’s some confusion

As salad leaves it’s not for sleepy head –
It’s common country name is “pissabed”.

Author notes
This is not right yet, I’ll think on for a while, the elements I want are here
but it needs to be a little more sonnety.
A Shakespearean or English sonnet in iambic pentameter.
