Daybreak

When the sun shines on the silence of a day not yet awake
While the shadows in the gardens fill with sunbeams ’til they break
There are whispers in the hedges and discussions in the trees
As the leaves make conversations with the dewdrops on the breeze
In the bedrooms of the houses lie the sleepers of the night
Who will cuddle in their duvets to keep out the morning light
There are lovers who are stirring to the feel of skin on skin
And the sun shines down in silver so their music can begin
I am standing at my window never seeing all the scene
As the skies turn blue from purple and the grass from black to green
In my heart I’m with another in a land across the sea
In my mind I’m forced to wonder if she’s dreaming dreams of me
When the sun achieves her station and the morning’s underway
All the silence is forgotten in the bustle of the day
I must interrupt my musings let the world flood back to me
Then it’s downstairs to my Shreddies and a lovely cup of tea!
