Diseased!

Diseased!

I found a compulsion to write
That’s driven my routine astray
I can’t got to sleep any night
If I haven’t written that day

I’ve always had rhyming inside
And voices that try every word
But now they’re refusing to hide
They make what I’m thinking absurd

I’ve written of hippos that fly
And spirits that live in a pool
The Moon pouring wine from the sky
And all sorts of love for a fool

I try to make everyone smile
Or shiver when I find their fears
Some tell me that once in a while
My poetry’s brought them to tears

With romance and nonsense in rhyme
Or free verse that’s harder to do
I’m striving to occupy time
With something you’ll think of as new

I read other writers with zeal
They give me some new ways to think
The best have ideas I can steal
(I always say thanks with a wink!)

I wonder what I’ll find to say
When nothing is left in my head
Or maybe that will be the day
When I find I’ve woken up dead
