Doing Nothing

I’ve friends for going shopping, and for drinking at the pub,
Acquaintances to talk to, playing snooker at the club.
The office sees me busy with the others of my crew
But when I’m doing nothing I need you.
I’m always up for Scrabble, spinning seven letter words,
Or for walking in the country in the hope of spotting birds.
I know a group of neighbours who would love to share a brew
But when I’m doing nothing I need you.
If others come to visit I would settle down to chat,
We’d talk about the weather and important things like that.
The rules of good behaviour say no silence should accrue
So when I’m doing nothing I need you.
But love is never awkward, needs no words to prove it’s true
I’m happy doing nothing, just with you.
