The name of the emu is Arthur McFadden
He’s dressed to the nines, not to do so would sadden,
The beautiful girl he’s determined to gladden
By taking her out for the night.
She’s never before seen a Michelin starred venue
And can’t understand all the meals on the menu
(If you visit one take the guide that I’ll pen you
And you will not seem impolite).
They started with seeds that had been deconstructed
To the sounds of an orchestra nicely conducted
Each musician playing as he’d been instructed
The tone was so playful and light.
The main course she chose wasn’t too unexpected
Her French lessons gave her some words she detected
The taste was quite odd but not bad she reflected
Her dress was now growing quite tight.
Selections of sweets were brought in on a trolley
To sample too few would be terrible folly
And she was no fool so by gosh and by golly
She tried every pudding in sight.
And now it’s past bedtime for Lizzie McFadden
Her birthday is done and it wasn’t a bad-un
Her first teenage treat going out with her Dad-n-
Today he got everything right!
Author notes
I wrote a poem about Arthur McFadden years ago, and since you posted his
picture I thought I should update the story.
Officially the image is from ” Portraits-of-Animals-Dressed-Like-H umans-by-Ago
Partal ” I have linked to the contest picture.
