Dreaming

Spring sunshine beneath a tree
Sat beside a cup of tea
Reading you in poetry
And dreaming
Birds cavorting round about
A chaffinch feels the need to shout
My robins getting rather stout
I’m dreaming
Does the sun still shine for you
And highlight all the things you do
To make my future seem brand new
And dreamy
Do flowers dance and shed perfume
And vie to decorate your room
May I join in their blissful doom
Of dreaming
A gentle smile plays on my lips
As words flow to my fingertips
And form themselves in coloured strips
Of dreaming
But now I’ve drunk my cup of tea
And memorised your poetry
So close your eyes and join with me
In dreaming
