My Princess knows her dreams are here to stay
Each night she leads them on a merry chase
She dreams that love will always find a way
No man believes the things she has to say
That in her heart she holds her lovers face
My Princess knows her dreams are here to stay
For while she sleeps her mind is out to play
Her body occupies a different space
She dreams that love will always find a way
The castle on the hill looks bleak and grey
But soon she’ll fill its halls with light and grace
My Princess knows her dreams are here to stay
There is no price she thinks too high to pay
A waterfall of dreams excites the pace
She dreams that love will always find a way
We share a dream about our wedding day
We’ll run away with just a tiny case
My Princess knows her dreams are here to stay
She dreams that love will always find a way
Author notes
I do not love this form, 6 stanzas rhymed A1bA2 abA1 abA2 abA1 abA2 abA1A2
where A1 and A2 represent the entire line.
Dylan Thomas in his “Rage against the dying of the light” poem showed that good
Villanelles exist, in my opinion they are few and far between.
