Duty

There are questions still unanswered in the minds of honest men
There are puzzles that the greatest cannot solve
From the depths of our existence we have tried to put to pen
Explanations of the way all things evolve
How do stars form in the heavens? When did life begin on Earth?
What is truth and what conjecture? Can we measure what we’re worth?
There are dreams an artist paints us, there are words that poets know
There is music that no orchestra can play
In the universe around us there are mysteries on show
In the vast experiment that’s under way
How does light traverse the distance that is far beyond our minds?
How does gravity attract us and all others that it finds?
What is time and what is distance, what is dark and what is light
Matter split from antimatter at the start
We find tales to tell our children when we know that they’re not right
But the meaning of the words is from the heart
There is beauty in the answers, and yet always there is more
Don’t believe those who don’t question, you’ve a duty to explore.
