Exasperation

It’s far too soon for Christmas, it’s not even Halloween
And Guy Fawkes after that can’t be forgot
So all those shops with fairy lights and yards of red and green
Are run by fools who really should be shot
It’s only Autumn everywhere but robins in the snow
Are peeping out from posters on the wall
And Father Christmas garden lights all spread a ghastly glow
On trees whose leaves aren’t ready yet to fall
The weather’s warm not wintry but old Santa on a sleigh
Is seen arriving with his reindeer team
The garden centres all conspire to wish our lives away
At every holly leaf I want to scream
Is it too much for me to ask that Christmas takes its turn
That Easter happens well into the Spring
If we can do it properly then maybe kids will learn
That there must be a time for everything
