Excuses

The winter falls in large white flakes
That cover up the worst mistakes
That tend to freeze the walkers’ toes
And hide the spots where springtime grows

The world is altered overnight
From dull and grey to cold and white
The pavements scrunch beneath your feet
And kids ride pallets for a treat

The sun can glisten on the snow
As though the sky was down below
Soft laughter fills the air for miles
And four year olds are wreathed in smiles

Their Mums and Dads are quite morose
The trip to work is triply gross
The traffic’s stopped the trains don’t run
And dirty car-spray’s not much fun

But all the ups and all the downs
The happy laughs and fed-up frowns
The winter means one thing to me
Excuse for writing poetry !!!
