A gentle breeze beneath the winter sun
The leaves and trees all dancing with delight
The blackbird proudly sings of battles won
While robins can’t resist a friendly fight

The pigeons and the squirrels won’t agree
On who should own a neighbour’s greenhouse roof
The jackdaw squawks annoyance from his tree
The ginger cat is strutting and aloof

Last night the Moon lent beauty to the sky
Where stars were strung like tiny Christmas lights
I stood and froze while nature made me sigh
Beneath the twinkling beauty of the heights

Such days as these make every songbird sing
They know it can’t be long until the spring

Author notes
For North Americans, Squirrels has two syllables in the UK SQUI-rrels as
opposed to squirls as I believe you pronounce the tree rat

Sadly two hours later the day is grey and horrid with drizzle in the air.
