Fading into Light

So beautiful a vision as it fades into the night
Warm waters lapping round as she proceeds
The Moon has always owned her and she’s drinking in her light
She knows that she must follow where it leads
The sea will see her safely to her goal so far away
A goddess far too beautiful to stay
A single blackbird singing as she steps towards her fate
The music every lover hears inside
While the ripples on the ocean wash away her last debate
As her spirit puts its trust into the tide
And the sea has always known her and it knows where she will be
When the Moon comes down to set her body free
As I watched my goddess walking into peril, as I thought
I was frozen so I couldn’t intercede
But my terrors were unfounded and the danger came to naught
Only then did magic forces have me freed
For her beauty wasn’t sinking into darkness far below
She was rising, riding moonbeams, in an eerie silver glow
I am certain as I can be that my eyes were not deceived
She dissolved and joined the moonlight on the sea
And I know I’ll always know her though my tale won’t be believed
Of the goddess and the Moon who set her free
She is with me in the morning after guarding me all night
If I close my eyes I’m bathing in her light
